With more than a decade of experience, former president of Uruguay, Pepe Mujica, shares his memories, ideas and travels, from Montevideo to the Far East, in the documentary Pepe’s dreams.
The film, which will debut in Brazil on December 5, is part of the trilogy directed by Uruguayan director Pablo Trobo, who met Mujica as a cameraman during his presidential campaign, and explores the former president’s ideas and beliefs, highlighting historical moments and revealing the personal journey that transformed him into one of the most respected and influential figures in the world.
Accompanied by the careful and permanent monitoring of the 2052 Movement’s camera, Mujica travels the world bearing witness to his life story and revealing the personal experiences that led him to become one of the most influential thinkers in the world.
This former guerrilla and member of the Tupamaros movement became known for having endured 12 years of harsh imprisonment, an experience that led him to become President of the Republic of Uruguay, and is a unique political figure in Latin America, whose path has marked stones milestones that transformed their country and placed it at the center of global debates.
In a global context of climate crisis and resource depletion, in which humanity pursues a model of predatory development and consumption, Mujica’s philosophy sounds like a warning.
Pepe’s dream is not only the dream of a more just and supportive society, but also of leaving a better planet for future generations. However, Mujica warns: “Time moves fast and you can’t buy it.”
