The US CDC predicts that Covid and RSV levels will increase in the coming weeks

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on Wednesday that it expects Covid-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) levels to rise in the United States in the coming weeks, as typically happens during the holiday season .

Large group gatherings, travel and more time indoors, which typically occur during the holiday season, tend to facilitate the spread of viruses, the health agency said.

The CDC predicts that flu and Covid-19 hospitalizations will begin to increase in the coming weeks. There is also increased RSV activity, particularly in young children, in the southern and eastern United States.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved updated Covid-19 vaccines made by Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech, as well as Moderna, in August.

The regulatory agency also granted emergency use authorization for Novavax’s traditional protein-based vaccine.

There are currently three FDA-approved RSV vaccines, made by GSK, Moderna, and Pfizer.

According to CDC data, as of Oct. 5, 11.2% of adults 18 and older have received an updated Covid-19 vaccine, and 36.9% of adults 75 and older received an RSV vaccine.
