New channel makes comedy videos with hosts after receiving harsh criticism

Times Brasil invites Christiane Pelajo and Natália Ariede to comment on the confusion with the station name and technical problems

The Times Brasil channel has decided to admit its failures in a cheerful way. A video was published on social media in which presenters Christiane Pelajo and Natália Ariede talk about the former’s most serious problems.

“I didn’t quite understand. After all, who are we?” asks the former Globo journalist. “Is it CNBC? Is it Times Brasil? CNBC in Brazil? Times Brasil CNBC?”

“Wait, I was very confused at first too,” Pelajo replies. Just as the host, the public, the press and possibly the sponsors did not understand the name change on the eve of the start of the broadcasts.

“It is an unprecedented business model, new in Brazil,” says the former GloboNews. “But it’s Times Brasil. What is Times Brasil? Exclusive licensee of CNBC.”

In practice, the new channel is not a subsidiary of North American CNBC, as, for example, CNN Brasil is compared to CNN in the United States. This is a station that has licensed the use of CNBC content.

At some point, it may start licensing material from another channel, such as ABC, NBC, Fox News, etc. Times Brasil is, as the name suggests, 100% Brazilian and uses productions from foreign partner CNBC.

“I think everything is clear now,” Natalia said. Christiane made a joke. “Did you really hear me? Because of the audio problem, I understand.” The presenter spoke about technical failures to GloboNews. One of them made her angry and she left the studio. The image was leaked online and became a meme.

“And by the way, today there were people who didn’t listen to us,” Ariede commented. “I was in front of the television and I saw that we had a small problem. But it’s normal. It’s 15 hours of live journalism,” he explained. “…but things are falling into place.”

Christiane Pelajo told her colleague that Times Brasil will offer “incredible quality”. This is what you really expect after creating so many expectations. Quality not only in audio, lights and images, especially in journalism.

After this confusing and frustrating start, Times Brasil needs to quickly show what it is here for. For now, it still makes no difference to established competing channels, such as GloboNews, CNN Brasil, Jovem Pan News, Record News and Band News.
