Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid testified this Thursday 21st, for approximately 3 hours, before the Supreme Federal Tribunal (STF). He was questioned by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who reports on the investigations in which the soldier appears to be under investigation. The CID hearing with Moraes was scheduled so that he could clarify “the contradictions between the collaborator’s statements and the investigations conducted by the Federal Police”. At the end of the investigation Moraes considered the outcome positive and decided to maintain the plea agreement.
Cid left the STF and was able to return to his home. He currently uses an electronic ankle bracelet, as part of a commitment made in the plea agreement. In a statement, the Supreme Court upheld Moraes’ decision and said the information provided by the former aide-de-camp “remains under investigation.”
“Minister Alexandre de Moraes confirmed the validity of Mauro Cid’s award-winning collaboration. The minister considered that the collaborator clarified the omissions and contradictions highlighted by the Federal Police. The collaborator’s information remains under investigation by the competent authorities” , we read in the STF note.
The statement was referred by the minister to the Federal Police (PF) to complete the investigation.
The PF had informed the STF in a letter that the CID – assistant to former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) – had not respected the clauses of his plea agreement, opening the door to a possible termination of the deal concluded in the digital militia investigation.
Prisons
The indication was made after the company collected the whistleblower’s statement on Tuesday, in the midst of the Contragolpe operation that arrested four soldiers and a PF agent on charges of involvement in a plan to assassinate President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva, his deputy Geraldo Alckmin and de Moraes.
Leaving the STF building yesterday afternoon, lawyer Cezar Bitencourt, who represents the lieutenant colonel, said that Moraes considers Mauro Cid’s testimony positive. Again according to the lawyer, his client supplemented the statement by “repeating the same things he had said”. “Everything was fine. Everything remained as before,” he said.
New names
Bitencourt also said that no new names, nor Bolsonaro’s alleged knowledge of the assassination plot, were discussed after the 2022 elections.
The day before yesterday Cid also denied to the federal police that he was aware of the meetings to decide how to kill Lula, Alckmin and Moraes. However, according to investigations by Operation Countercoup, launched on the same day, one of the meetings of the coup plot took place at the house of General Braga Netto, in Brasilia, on November 12, 2022, in the presence of Cid.
In 2023, the lieutenant colonel, under investigation, signed a plea deal with the PF and committed to revealing the facts he learned about during the Bolsonaro government, such as the case of Saudi jewelry sales and Saudi vaccine card fraud.
Mauro Cid is one of the 37 indicted yesterday by the PF in the investigation into the attempted coup after Lula’s election.
