Francisco will also meet President Emmanuel Macron
The Vatican announced this Saturday (23) that Pope Francis will make an apostolic trip to the island of Corsica, France, on December 15.
According to the Holy See Press Office, the pontiff has accepted the invitation of the French civil and ecclesiastical authorities and will participate in the conclusion of a congress on “popular religiosity in the Mediterranean” in Ajaccio, the capital and most populous city of Corsica.
The agenda released by the Vatican provides for the Pope to intervene in the final session of the event and also after a prayer with the bishops, priests, deacons and seminarians of the island. The expectation is that, in these declarations, the Catholic leader will address the migratory crisis in the Mediterranean, a topic that is close to his heart.
Before returning to Rome, Francis will celebrate mass in a square in Ajaccio and meet the French president, Emmanuel Macron, at the city’s airport.
This will be the Pope’s third international trip in 2024, joining Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Singapore, between September 2 and 13, and Luxembourg and Belgium, between the 26 and 29 of the same month. .
