Already number 1 on Netflix, GTMAX is the new popular French action film on the platform. Directed by Ava Baya, Riad Belaiche, Jalil Lespert, Jérémy Laher, Thibaut Evrard, Gérard Lanvin and Clementine Cellarie, this effective and entertaining thriller immerses us in the world of motocross.

The film follows Soel, a young motocross prodigy who sees his dreams of success shattered after a crash. Now he focuses on the training of his brother Michael. But when he’s recruited by Tmax scooter pilots for a high-profile heist in Paris, Soeli must overcome his fears to save him.

Actor, screenwriter and director, but also stunt director and stunt coordinator Olivier Schneider, who cut his teeth on films like Taken, Fast & Furious 6 or James Bond 007 Specter and No Time To Die, has started the production of his first feature film. with GTMAX.

“I wanted to make a French film”As Olivier Schneider explains in the press kit, “Trying to imitate the Americans is excluded from trying to ‘like’ them, so to speak.” I have real know-how in France and I want to highlight it.”

With his experience and the Inox experience of David Julien’s films, with the heir to the legendary dynasty of legendary stuntmen. This coordinator, who had already worked on AKA and Balle Perdue 2, was in charge of the production of the motorcycles and the training of the actors.

Impressive stunts mastered by a true professional

Filming in Paris, especially the impressive chase scene that lasted more than 10 minutes, was supposed to take place in the summer of 2023, before the Paris Olympics. And they were carefully prepared using toys in the environment drawn on the board. The scenes were filmed and sent to the script artist to translate them into detailed drawings.

After that, the French capital became a veritable playground for teams that followed a visually coherent course, as the director points out: “We decided to start with very narrow streets and gradually move towards the banks. There we managed to reproduce a course of bumps and jumps, reminiscent of the world of motocross, a way to relax with dramatic issues”.

A crane and motorcycle camera were used to keep the action close to motorcycles and two-wheel traffic, while Sony FX3 boxes were mounted on the vehicles for the immersive side.

“I wanted action scenes that were readable, certainly not something that was over the top or too jarring.” Olivier Scheider explains, “I also wanted us to see the capital, because persecution there is very rare.”. Although a few close-ups were shot against the LED backdrop, 95% of what is shown on screen is done live with professionalism, authenticity and attention to detail. And the result is impressive and amazing.
