Chenoweth played Glinda in the Broadway musical, while Grande played the character in the film adaptation
Kristin Chenowethwho originally played Glinda in Wicked on Broadway, still in 2003, reacted to the comment of Ariana Grande about the possibility of the character being “a little in the closet”.
Big stars in the film adaptation of the musical as Glinda alongside Cynthia Erivowho plays Elphaba. The film premiered in Brazilian theaters last week.
In an interview with the British magazine Gay Times (via People), Erivo and Big they talked about the possible sexuality of their characters.

“I think Elphie goes where the wind takes her,” he reflected Erivo about Elphaba. “I think she loves Glinda. I think she loves love. And I have no problem celebrating the deep connection that the two have,” he said, adding that the characters have an “unbreakable bond.”
“And trust and truth”, he pointed out Bigwho added: “It’s such a safe space for each other, which is how all relationships should be, whether romantic or platonic.”

Ariana stated, however, that the connection between Glinda and Elphaba “is just true love, and I think that transcends sexuality. It’s just a deep security between the two of them, and that’s why [os fãs] probably ‘shipam'”.
Chenowethin turn, agreed with Big: “I thought that a long time ago when…” She left the comment on an Instagram post.
