How has a serious eye infection affected the recording of Elton Johh’s new album?
Elton John said the “serious” eye infection, which caused him to lose vision in his right eye for four months, is interfering with his work.
The statement came in an interview with the program Good Morning Americain which John provided more details about his vision after Robin Roberts ask about the status of your new album. “It’s been a while since I’ve done anything,” the singer-songwriter said, citing his vision loss.
“There’s hope and encouragement that everything will be fine, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment… [então] going into the studio and recording, I don’t know.” He added that even though giving an interview is feasible, he can’t read lyrics or watch anything. Watch the interview (in English) below:
Elton John developed the infection during the Northern Hemisphere summer while in the south of France. In September, he shared the news about the infection and revealed that it was affecting the vision in one of his eyes. “It will take some time for vision to return to the affected eye,” he wrote on Instagram at the time.
Although his vision has been affected, the legendary musician’s spirit remains strong. He recently teamed up with singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile for a new song “Never Too Late”which is part of the soundtrack for the most recent documentary about his life. The documentary, also titled Never Too Latewas directed by RJ Cutler and John’s husband, David Furnish. Never Too Late premiered on November 15th in a limited theatrical release and will be released on Disney+ on December 13th.
As John discussed the documentary on the show, he expressed gratitude for all of his achievements, saying, “I’m the luckiest man in the world.”
