We have been waiting for 3 years! Squid Game Season 2 will be released on Netflix in 30 days

Fans have been waiting for three years now, but their patience will be rewarded within thirty days. On December 26, Netflix will release Season 2 of Squid Game, a direct sequel to the South Korean series that broke all records on the platform in late 2021. The third and final season has already been announced for next year.

Direct continuation of the first season

Squid Game sees people in deep debt contacted by a mysterious recruiter to take part in a children’s game. The winners of the nine events will actually be offered an amount of 45.6 billion won (or 32 million euros).

However, the contestants on the ground find out that the losers will die and only one of the 456 candidates will survive the nine games.

The first season ended with the victory of Seong Gi-hoon (played by Lee Jung-jae), aka contestant number 456. As he prepares to start a new life in the United States to reunite with his daughter, the latter finally decides. Stay in South Korea to dismantle the organization responsible for these deadly games.

Therefore, Squid Game Season 2 was created as a direct sequel to the first. In addition to Seong-hoon, this new season marks the return of Hwang Joon-ho (Wi Ha-joon). This young police officer tries to infiltrate the organization to track down his older brother (Lee Byun-hoon).

Which characters will return from the first season?

We know that the latter is still alive and he is now hiding under the identity of the Masked Man (also the frontman). This will also be in Season 2, as will the recruiter played by Gong Yoo. This new season will also introduce new characters.

Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has already confirmed that he has finished filming season 3, which is expected to hit Netflix in 2025. This will be the last season of the program, but spin-offs may see the day in the near future. A remake project is currently under study under the supervision of American director David Fincher.

The nine episodes of Squid Game Season 2 can be seen starting December 26th exclusively on Netflix.
