After the triumph of My Little Deer, its creator and actor returns with a great family saga that promises to move

After his autobiographical show Baby Reindeer (Original Version), Richard Gad experienced meteoric rise in 2024 thanks to a series adaptation on Netflix. Due to its emotional intensity and uncompromising storytelling, the show catapulted the artist to essential creator status overnight!

Building on that enthusiasm, Richard Gaddy is now joining forces with the BBC and HBO for an ambitious new venture: Half Man, which we already wanted last June but was announced under the Lions title.

Immersion in sibling relationships

Announced as a six-episode series, Half a Man follows the tumultuous reunion between two brothers, Reuben and Niall, played by Richard Gad and Jamie Bell (Without Ever Knowing Us) respectively.

When Reuben calls off Niall’s wedding, their confrontation sparks emotional chaos that revisits their forty-year history together. The series promises to explore the gray areas of modern masculinity and the social and cultural evolution of their time. A theme that was already present in My Little Deer and which Richard Gaddy tackled directly and with great courage.

Prestigious production

Co-written and produced by Richard Gadd himself, Half Man marks a new collaboration between HBO and the BBC. Directed by Alexandra Brodsky (Somewhere Boy) and Ashref Raybrook (Cheyenne and Lola), the series will be filmed in Scotland, airing in the country of origin.

Contrary to what one might think, Half Man was not realized thanks to the success of My Little Reindeer. Richard Gad actually signed on to the project, first with the BBC, last February before My Little Reindeer launched on Netflix, as you may recall. Diversity.

HBO joined the project as a co-producer in June. At the time, Gad was a creator, writer, and executive producer of the series, but he was not expected to appear on the series. Changing his status certainly weighed in the balance.

With Half Man, Richard Gad aims to push the narrative boundaries that made My Little Reindeer such a success. Between family drama and social reflection, the series is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated television events of 2025. Currently, no French broadcaster is attached to the series.
