Western series are on the rise. Thanks to the success of Yellowstone, this genre, which is considered completely obsolete by Hollywood, is enjoying a second time on television. A few weeks ago, Netflix premiered the first season of Territory, its Australian Yellowstone.
The platform will soon launch a new western series called At the Dawn of America. Expected to hit Netflix on January 7, the six-episode program is written by Mark L. Smith (screenwriter of The Revenant) and directed by blockbuster specialist Peter Berg (Blood and Tears).
The series depicts the conquest of the West, from the point of view of several characters. The show’s prestigious cast includes Taylor Kitsch (one of the stars of Peter Berg’s previous series, Friday Night Lights), Dane DeHaan (Chronicle), Betty Gilpin (GLOW), Jai Courtney (Suicide Squad) and Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire). ).
Twilight Western
The first images from the show, released by Netflix, herald the Twilight Western, which paints a portrait of an America rooted in a spirit of conquest and violence. The atmosphere of the series seems darker than that of Yellowstone, and its snowy landscapes are reminiscent of the movie The Revenant.
American Dawn is designed as a six-episode mini-series, which means there are no plans for a sequel…at least for now. There is no doubt that if the public’s enthusiasm for westerns is confirmed by this new production, Netflix will be able to find the right arguments to convince the team to return for several additional seasons.
You can watch all six episodes of America’s Dawn on January 9 exclusively on Netflix.
