Summary
NASA astronauts on the International Space Station wish a happy Thanksgiving, expressing gratitude to family and friends.
The four NASA astronauts who currently reside on the International Space Station (ISS) wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Nick Hague, Don Pettito, Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore sent thank you messages directly from yours orbital postas released by NASA on Wednesday (27).
“Greetings from the International Space Station!” Williams said as he opened the two-minute video. “Our team here just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and family on Earth and everyone who supports us.”
“Thanksgiving is typically a holiday where family and friends gather,” the astronaut said.
“Sometimes that can’t happen – being physically close to each other – but in today’s age, you can connect with your family and friends virtually.” Next, Pettit spoke, discussing the separation he and his colleagues must experience on days like today.
In the video, the astronauts “We are grateful to a nation that is a space nation, that allows us to live free, to say what we think is important, to say and so many other things. There is a lot to be grateful for this season,” Wilmore added .
Williams, leader of the current ISS mission, and Wilmore arrived at the station on June 6, during the first crewed flight of Boeing’s new Starliner capsule. The pair were expected to remain in the space laboratory for a week or more, but problems with the Starliner’s thrusters prolonged their stay.
Ultimately, NASA chose to return the Starliner to Earth uncrewed, which it did in September. Williams and Wilmore will return home in February, along with Hague and Russian cosmonaut Alexander Gorbunov, in the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule. Hague and Gorbunov reached the International Space Station in late September during SpaceX’s Crew-9 mission.
