The names of new candidates for the Central Bank board are expected to be presented to the Senate by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Friday or early next week, Civil Housing Minister Rui Costa said on Thursday.
In an interview with journalists at the Palácio do Planalto, the minister said that Lula intends to organize a ceremony for the Central Bank’s director of monetary policy, Gabriel Galípolo, who will take command of the institution next year. On the same day he will have to announce the names of the new directors, including that of Galípolo’s successor.
Lula will appoint the successors of Otavio Damaso, current director of the Regulations, and Carolina de Assis Barros, director of Relations, Citizenship and Behavioral Supervision.
New nominees will have to undergo a hearing and approval by senators.
