The wave of biopics in the cinema, in 2024 and it is not over! While Bob Marley’s One Love is released on myCANAL and broadcast on the channel tonight, we’re taking a look at 5 other musical biopics coming out in 2025. Here’s an overview, in chronological order of release.

Robbie Williams

a better man By Michael Grace – Released on January 22, 2025

Written and directed by Michael Grace – The Greatest Showman – Better Man follows the rise of British singer-songwriter Robbie Williams. Rising to stardom at the age of 16 with boy band Take That in the 1990s, the latter gradually fell into artificial heaven before achieving solo success in 1997 with Angels.

This feature film is unique in that there will be several iterations of Robbie Williams, including (and especially) the monkey.

Inspired by the singer’s life, the film introduces the Feel singer as a monkey, as he sees himself, as he explains in the trailer and the clip below. And it’s British actor Jono Davies, who plays the young singer and arrives in a CGI suit.

In a rare musical biopic, Robbie Williams appears in the cast as himself. He also narrates the Better Man trailer, which follows the singer’s journey from childhood to stardom. Owen Damon Herriman, Kate Mulvaney, Alison Steadman and Rachel Bano (as Nicole Appleton from All Saints).

Bob Dylan

a complete stranger By James Mangold – Released on January 29, 2025

Announced more than 4 years ago, before the pandemic, the Bob Dylan biopic is finally coming to life! This is a new film project about the life of a famous singer: a complete stranger (titled in English as A Complete Unknown and previously titled Going Electric).

After playing Henry V in David Michaud’s The King (Fury), Timothée Chalamet becomes Bob Dylan in this musical biopic directed by James Mangold (Le Mans 66).

In addition to the physical resemblance, Timothée Chalamet worked on his voice and singing to sing himself.

Chalamet is surrounded by Edward Norton, Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning (as Sylvie Russo) and Monica Barbaro (as Joan Baez). The screenplay is written by Jay Cox.

The film marks the return of director James Mangold to the musical biopic Walk The Line after almost 20 years. The drama, which brought together Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon (Oscar winner for this role), looked back on Johnny Cash’s younger years.

Maria Callas

After Jack, the Jackie Kennedy film starring Natalie Portman and Spencer, in which Kristen Stewart portrays Princess Diana, Chilean director Pablo Larraín has created a new biopic, MariaInspired by the life of the famous opera singer Maria Callas.

And Angelina Jolie, who has rarely been seen on screens in recent years, plays Kalas. The film tells the story of the tragic life of the world’s greatest opera singer, which was repeated in his last days in Paris in the 1970s.

The film, presented as a world premiere at the Venice Film Festival last September, received a great response from the press, especially the performance of Angelina Jolie.

Michael Jackson

Michael By Antoine Fuqua – Released on April 16, 2025

Written by John Logan, who notably collaborated with Martin Scorsese (The Aviator, Hugo Cabret) and Sam Mendes (Skyfall, 007 Spectre), the film will be produced by Graham King, who is responsible for the successful Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody.

According to director Antoine Fuqua, Sober Titled Michael will retrace the superstar’s journey without avoiding his dark side. The film is expected to chronicle the rise of the artist, from his beginnings with the Jackson Five to his death at the age of 50.

Bruce Springsteen

Don’t take me anywhere by Scott Cooper – released in 2025

The Bear star, who starred in the true story Iron Claw earlier this year, will play the boss! Jeremy Allen White will play the rock star in the film, which will be based on one of Springsteen’s 6th albums, Nebraska, released in 1982. It’s the name of the movie. Don’t take me anywhere.

Screenwriter and director is Scott Cooper. Scott Cooper is best known for directing Crazy Heart, a feature film that already focuses on a fictional country musician played by Jeff Bridges. Scott Cooper has also directed The Blazes of Wrath, the western Enemies and most recently The Pale Blue Eye for Netflix.

The film is an adaptation of Warren Zanes’ book, “Save Me From Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska.” It tells the story of the making of the Nebraska album. This is the album that preceded Born in USA.

Jeremy Allen White is on the rise. She recently won a Golden Globe, an Emmy and a SAG Award for her role as Carmi Berzato on Bear.

Bee Gees by Ridley Scott

After House of Gucci or even Napoleon, another biopic in Ridley Scott’s perspective! A British director has been chosen to direct the Bee Gees biopic. There has been talk of a biopic about the band, which produced hits such as Stayin’ Alive, Saturday Night Fever and How Deep Is Your Love, for several years. The script will be written by John Logan (as the aforementioned Michael) and will look back on the life of the band with more than 220 million records sold. Casting and shooting start date are not yet known.

The Beatles by Sam Mendes

4 films for the Beatles! This is a crazy bet announced in early 2024 to immortalize a famous pop group. Goal: One film for each member of the quartet, with a deadline of 2027 for all four films! At the helm of the project will be a great director, English filmmaker Sam Mendes, to whom we owe the latest James Bond films.

For reference, the premise of the project will be to tell the story of the quartet, before their breakup in 1970, focusing in turn on John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison. The four films will hit theaters in 2027, with the strategy presented as “Innovative“.

Edith Piaf in animation

16 years after Olivier Dahan’s biopic, La Môme, for which Marion Cotillard won a César and an Oscar for best actress, a new film centered on Edith Piaf will see the light of day. It will be an animated biopic called Edith, created using artificial intelligence.

Warner Music Entertainment has joined forces with the rights holders of Edith Piaf to launch this unique project. Warner Music explains to AFP that artificial intelligence will make it possible to recreate the voice of a famous singer. “Artificial intelligence technology trained on hundreds of sound clips and images, some dating back more than 80 years, will bring Piaf’s distinct voice and image to life for added authenticity and emotional impact to her story. The recordings of Edith Piaf’s greatest songs will of course be used in the original version.”
