Irrational on M6: Is this detective series worth it in the wake of Lie to Me and Mentalist?

After offering for 5 weeks the first season of Quantum Code, the sequel to the cult series with Scott Bakula, M6 will launch the police series Irrational this Saturday 29th November from 9.10pm.

Jesse L. An opportunity for Martin, one of the stars of New York City’s forensic police, to return to his roots, solving murders and other mysteries with a deft hand.

A professor specializing in the behavioral sciences

In Irrational, the actor impersonates Professor Alec Mercer, a behavioral science expert who lends his knowledge to law enforcement, where his ex-wife Marissa (Mahra Hill) works.

His unique gift allows him to have an outside perspective on the cases he is trying to solve and notice small details that everyone else overlooks. On a personal level, Alec must also battle his own demons.

Twenty years ago, he survived a church bombing that killed 13 people and left him with burns over 60 percent of his body. Unfortunately, he does not remember this event. So he will try to relive his past to discover who is really behind this deadly attack.

Jesse L. Martin in an attractive role

The Trickster, The Mentalist, The Monk, HPI, or even Astrid and Raphael are all detective series that use the well-known trope of the eccentric counselor who has a special talent that makes him better than everyone else.

A basic formula whose success is beyond doubt. So it’s no surprise that NBC wanted to add its rock to the building with an irrational, classic procedural in which each episode focuses on a new case.

From a mysterious plane crash to a murder of influence, Alec and his two assistants try to go beyond the evidence and bring human emotions to the fore.

Even if the culprits are often obvious, the series still manages to give us pause and surprise here and there. The salt of the irrational is mainly in the mystery of Alec’s character.

Like him, we want to know what happened 20 years ago. Jesse L. And Martin, who we have seen in The Flash or NYPD, is very accurate in his interpretation and without any difficulty manages to make it very attractive with the right dose of humor.

In short, Irrational probably won’t reinvent the procedural genre, but it remains a very enjoyable series thanks to the character played by Jesse L. Martin.

Catch three new episodes of Irrational this Saturday 30 November from 9.10pm on M6.
