Under pressure from this year’s poor results, the Portuguese executive surprised the automotive world by resigning this Sunday
Portuguese executive Carlos Tavares resigned this Sunday, 1, from his position as global CEO of Stellantis, a super manufacturer that brings together brands such as Fiat, Jeep, Peugeot, Citroën, Ram, Opel and Alfa Romeo. The resignation came suddenly and surprised the automotive world.
Carlos Tavares is stepping down as global CEO of Stellantis just two months after the company issued a profit warning as it lost 40% of its market value this year. Stellantis’ idea was to make a smooth transition and find a replacement CEO in the first half of 2025.
According to Reuters, “independent director Henri de Castries said in a statement that Tavares’ decision to leave the group is the result of different opinions that have emerged in recent weeks among major shareholders.” Stellantis South America, a leader in the region, did not comment on the matter.
