A line from Ryan Reynolds’ character was removed at Disney’s request
A joke was left out Deadpool & Wolverine because it is considered inappropriate.
In a dialogue between Deadpool, Elektra, Gambit and Blade, the latter states that Magneto is dead when asked who he is. Deadpool then responds: “What do you mean we can’t even afford another X-Man? Disney is so lazy. I can barely breathe with all this Mickey Mouse shit in my throat.”
Blade’s name was inserted into the script as Billy in case the material was leaked.
In an interview with Collider (via NME), Ryan Reynolds revealed that there was an impasse with Disney over a specific joke, which was never properly identified. The actor did not oppose the large company’s request and agreed to remove the line.
“There was a comment about a specific line, and I will say this: they asked me to remove it,” he said. “I was not forced to remove it. To quote someone in a very high leadership position at Disney: ‘I’m with you through thick and thin. And if you take away the joke, I’ll love it. If you don’t, I’ll still love and support you, this film, and all the hard work involved.’”
“At that point you think: ‘Do I want to insist out of pride? Do I care? Am I going to die defending a joke?’ Look, the answer is, of course, I’ll die for a joke, but then you reflect a few weeks later.”
