Deadpool is outspoken and often dares to say things out loud that other Marvel heroes can’t even think out loud! Proof of this is this line from Deadpool & Wolverine, which was censored by Disney, who deemed it too “dirty”.
During the film’s release last summer with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the film’s director Sean Levy already mentioned the line on the microphone.Entertainment Weekly :
“There was only one line in the movie that we were asked to change. Ryan and I had a deal to fight to the death for that line, but I’d say it was replaced with some dirty dialogue about Pinocchio burying his face in Deadpool’s butt. And starts lying like never before.
I said to him, “Ryan, is that your go-to line for ‘Let’s Clean Up?'” That’s pure Ryan Reynolds pushing the boundaries.
But today, Disney released a Deadpool and Wolverine storyline in which the kuu replaced in post-production is written again (via Diversity):
SHIT! Can’t we buy another X-Men? Disney is so stingy. I can hardly breathe with this Mickey Rooster down my throat.
Associating Disney characters with any idea of sexuality has always been taboo at Disney, even with occasional “mistakes” thrown in here and there. So it’s no surprise that the line was censored by the firm, especially for Mickey, who is a symbol of the studio’s history and image.
Pinocchio, on the other hand, is not strictly speaking a Disney “muse”, as he is a fictional character created in 1881 by Carlo Collodi, who appears to have had a Disney adaptation. A detail that changes everything.
For a taste of the new line, Deadpool and Wolverine is now available on VOD and physical media ahead of its arrival on the Disney+ platform in a little over a year.
