During the Marrakech Film Festivalwhere he was honored, the actor said at a press conference: “The Academy has demonstrated truly extraordinary cowardice when it comes to being part of a larger world of expression and, in fact, has been largely responsible for limiting imagination and different cultural expressions”.
To Pennthe ceremony of Oscar should be considered more like “television programs” than as barometers of artistic merit.

“So I don’t get too excited about what we call the Academy Awards, [exceto] when films like The Florida Project, I’m Still Here or Emilia Pérezthe things that will probably happen this year”, he added, also mentioning controversies involving The Apprentice. “When something manages to pass, it should be celebrated”, he said about the film directed by Abbasi.
“It’s jaw-dropping how much this [suposto] Rebel business is afraid of a big movie like this. One with excellent performances. [É impressionante] that they too can be as afraid as an insignificant Republican congressman,” he continued.
