Almada leaves his future at Botafogo open: ‘I want to play in Europe’

The Argentine is one of the protagonists of the season, but does not plan to stay at Glorioso in 2025

World champion and current Libertadores, Thiago Almada has left doubts about his future at Botafogo. In a live interview on the “Pelota Dividida” program, on “Blender/Olé”, the attacking midfielder underlined his dream of playing in Europe and declared that he does not know if he will stay at Glorioso for 2025.

“We know we will play [Super] World Championship, but I don’t know if I will continue next year. I really want to play in Europe. When I arrived in Botafogo a certain period of time was agreed to then go to Europe. For now there is Lyon, I spoke with the owner of the club, who is the same as Botafogo”, said Almada, without wanting to go into details.

The player, in fact, revealed that he rejected a proposal from Saudi Arabia before accepting that of Botafogo, in a meeting with John Textor in the Bahamas.

“Before I made the decision to come to Botafogo, I received an offer from Saudi Arabia that I could easily make the decision to live in peace for the rest of my life, but I decided to come to Botafogo because I wanted to win titles . I am very happy, now I have the Brasileirão to add another title to my career”, he underlined.

Thiago Almada, however, has yet to finish the season. On Wednesday Glorioso will face Internacional, in Beira-Rio, and will be able to secure the Brasileirão title. Finally, Botafogo will also play in the Intercontinental Cup, and could face Real Madrid in the final, on the 18th, in Lusail.
