‘Wicked 2’: Release date and which part will be the second part, according to the musical

The movie Wicked, based on the hit Broadway musical, is already breaking box office records, proving that musicals are still popular. Although it premiered a few weeks ago, fans are already wondering when the sequel to the story will be released. Here we have the answer.

What is “Wicked”?

“Wicked” explores the lives of two young women: Elphaba, who later becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, known as the Good Witch of the North. The two start out as college roommates, with completely opposite personalities: Elphaba is smart, unruly, and has green skin that makes her stand out, while Glinda is charming and popular.

Although they don’t get along at first, an unexpected event brings them together. Together they discover the injustices and hidden secrets of the kingdom of Oz, which puts their friendship to the test. Along the way, Elphaba faces decisions that change her fate and turn her into a misunderstood figure.

Thanks to the songs, choreography and chemistry between the lead actors, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, ‘Wicked’ was a success. However, this is only the first part, since from the beginning of the project it was announced that there will be two films.

“Wicked: Part Two” will also be based on the original musical

According to the musical it’s based on, “Wicked: Part Two” will begin the story after Elphaba and Glinda discover that the Wizard is not who he says he is and that the world sees Elphaba as a danger to Oz. Greenskin leaves with her broom, seeking refuge and breaks off her friendship with Glinda, leaping years.

The new chapter will show how Elphaba becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, Glinda’s transformation into the Good Witch, and reveal who the other characters really are along the way.

The release date of Wicked 2 in cinemas will be November 21, 2025 and will include the participation of all the actors we saw in the first part. In addition, more weight will be given to characters we know in “The Wizard of Oz,” such as Dorothy.
