Luca Meirelles, star of Peixe’s Under 17 team with 28 goals this year, has been promoted to the professional ranks for next season
One of the highlights of Santos’ academy in 2024, 17-year-old striker Luca Meirelles will not be part of the squad that competes at Copinha next month. The player was promoted, by the end of the year, to the main team, where the 2025 season will begin.
This year Meirelles was the top scorer of the Under 17s in 2024, with 28 goals in 39 games, in the state and national championships in his category and in the Under 20s, where he played. The striker was in the first team in the last Serie B matches, where he played against CRB and Sport.
The player will continue with the Santos professional team in early 2025. The football department’s interpretation is that the player deserves the opportunity to stay in the group and get opportunities during competitions.
Therefore, instead of participating in Copinha, he will be with Santos in the pre-season in the United States. Peixe will play the Orlando Cup together with Colombians Fortaleza and Atlético Nacional from 11 to 19 January.
