Landman: In which Yellowstone series did Billy Bob Thornton appear before?

When you start working with Taylor Sheridan, anything can happen. Thus, Dion Olivier did not have to wait long after the death of his character in Yellowstone to reconnect with the world of the American screenwriter in his series Special Ops: The Lion. It must be said that the latter has a lot to look forward to, no less than 10 series in production.

His latest creation, Landman, immerses us in the ruthless world of Texas oil companies. Billy Bob Thornton portrays Tommy Norris, a farmer who is tasked by a wealthy tycoon to solve problems with his operation. Worn by life and cynical to the tips of his nails, Norris still hates being dictated to by others.

The first collaboration in the world of Yellowstone

With his weathered features and nasal Southern drawl, Billy Bob Thornton is the perfect actor archetype to play in Taylor Sheridan’s series. Moreover, Landman is not their first collaboration, as both men have already worked together in the past on the Yellowstone series.

It doesn’t take a brain to remember the American actor’s appearance in one of the five seasons of the Western series. However, he appeared in one of the prequels, specifically in 1883. This mini-series follows the long journey the Duttons take before settling in Montana to build a ranch: Yellowstone.

Landman was written specifically for Billy Bob Thornton

In the second episode of 1883, which also features an appearance by Tom Hanks, Billy Bob Thornton lends his features to Jim Cortright, a trigger-happy marshal. The appearance lasts only a few minutes, but enough to make an impression. Her performance impressed Taylor Sheridan so much that he decided to write Landman especially for her.

“I went to the premiere of 1883 in Vegas, and then we had dinner, and Taylor sat down next to me and said, ‘I’ll write something for you. It’s called Landman and it’s about the oil industry.” The American actor recalled in an interview The Hollywood Reporter.

“He said, ‘I’m going to write this in your voice, because I’ve known you for a long time, so I’m going to write it from your point of view.’ he added. “And wow, when I read the script, I said to myself, this character is me, if I were a miller.”

The series Yellowstone, 1883 and Landman can be seen exclusively on Paramount+, which is also offered as part of a Canal+ subscription.
