After being successful with the single ‘Girls Like Girls,’ which also became a book years later, Hayley Kiyoko will create a film based on the song
Actress in films such as Supernatural: The Origin (2015) and Lemonade Mouth: A Different Band (2011) with a career in music, Hayley Kiyoko announced that he will direct the first film, titled Girls Like Girlsin addition to being the co-writer of the project.
As Deadline reported, Kiyoko based the film on the single “Girls Like Girls,” released in 2015, which has more than 141 million reproductions on the Spotifyand even became a book in 2023. The film’s script was also written by Stefanie Scott, who acts in the music video alongside the artist.
In the book, Kiyoko said how the song is “a love letter to anyone who doesn’t believe they are worthy of being loved back or that they can have a happy ending.” The film will be produced by Focus Features and Marc Plattproducer of Wicked (2024).
In a post made on Instagram, the artist commented how she “dreamed of this moment 9 years ago,” and this “last almost decade” has seen her priorities change and evolve, with an “immense struggle” in the film’s development.
“Since I launched ‘Girls Like Girls‘ In 2015, I made a promise to myself and all of you to do everything in my power to create content queer hopeful on the largest possible scale. The roadmap was never clear, I just kept believing that if I kept trying, one day a road could be paved,” he said. “We did it. It’s here.”
