No Armageddon, no Gravity… this sci-fi flick is just an honest B movie and it would be a shame to miss it.

There are science fiction films that celebrate the collective conscience: Armageddon, Welcome to Gattaca, Interstellar or even Gravity. Then there are others trying to make their way into this solid competition, like Geostorm.

Released in theaters in 2017, this film by Dean Devlin (co-writer of Independence Day) is a race against time to save the world. Thanks to strong cooperation between states, a network of satellites now monitors the climate and protects the population. But one day this device is wrong. Is this a conspiracy or a flaw in the system?

And who better than Gerard Butler to keep humanity safe? Let us remind you, the Scottish actor is used to action films where everything suddenly falls into chaos. We especially think of the feature films “The Fall of the President”, “Mayday”, or Greenland – The Last Refuge.

Next to him we meet other faces known to the general public: Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas), Abbie Cornish (Limited), Alexandra Maria Lara (The King’s Man: The First Mission), Ed Harris (The Truman Show) and Andy Garcia. (Ocean’s Eleven).

“good fun”

It is certain that along with the best science fiction films, Geostorm It can be seen a little below. The national press gave it a rating of 2 out of 5, and the audience gave it a rating of 2.2 out of 5.

Still, this half-action, half-SF disaster movie remains a bona fide B series, as evidenced by the numerous comments posted on AlloCiné: “Entertaining enough to give more than four stars”, “Overall not bad”, “I was expecting another big drama, but in the end I was very happy to play this disaster movie.

You can also read Geostorm It’s a good disaster movie that stands out a bit from the rest.” or even “A good moment of impressive and fun entertainment.”

Kind and comforting words that go some way to salvaging the furniture when we know that the film suffered a resounding failure at the international box office, grossing over $221 million. That’s not all, because Geostorm also experienced a real ordeal during filming.
