The miniseries “Untamed” explores the dangers and brutality of the 19th century American frontier
Once upon a time there was the West
Netflix has released the official trailer for “American Primeval,” an epic miniseries set in 1857, portraying the early, turbulent years of the American Wild West. Directed by director Peter Berg (“The Greatest Hero”) and written by Mark L. Smith (“The Revenant,” “Twisters”), the production promises a gritty and realistic vision of the formation of the United States.
The preview highlights scenes of great brutality. But Julie O’Keefe, Native consultant on the series, made a reservation on the Tudum site: “After reading historical accounts of what happened to Native peoples of that time, the violence in ‘Untamed Land’ is even moderate.”
Plot and main cast
Betty Gilpin (“GLOW”) plays a courageous pioneer who, accompanied by her young son, faces the challenges of a land marked by violence and uncertainty. To survive, he relies on the help of a skilled explorer with a dark past, played by Taylor Kitsch (also from “The Greatest Hero”). But their journey puts them on a collision course with radical Mormons, ruthless outlaws, and warring Indian tribes.
The cast also includes Kim Coates (“Sons of Anarchy”), Jai Courtney (“Suicide Squad”), Dane DeHaan (“The Amazing Spider-Man 2”), Preston Mota (“The Girl and the Mirror”), Nick Hargrove (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”), Derek Hinkey (“The Outsiders”), Saura Lightfoot-Leon (“Benders of the Air”), Shawnee Pourier (“Dark Winds”), Joe Tippett (“The Mare from Easttown” ) And Shea Whigham (“Joker”).
