2 million viewers in France: A third film is planned for this terrifying saga

Warning – This article contains spoilers for the ending of Smile 2

In 2022, director Parker Finn scared us with a smile. Originally slated for a streaming release, Smile received such positive reviews that Paramount decided to release it theatrically. It’s a wise choice, as the $17 million-budgeted feature film grossed $217 million worldwide and brought in 1.22 million viewers in France. Two years later, the director did it again with Smile 2, a film that picks up where the first part left off.

In this sequel, Naomi Scott plays a pop star infected with a creepy smile. With a budget of $28 million, the horror film grossed nearly $138 million (and brought in 760,826 viewers in France), leaving the door open for a third opus.

An even crazier third movie?

In October last year, the screenwriter and director announced The Hollywood Reporter : “There are so many interesting ways to continue Smile. We’ll have to see how the audience receives Smile 2, but what’s great about these films is that they allow us to tell different types of stories and ‘explore different worlds.’
