This Saturday (7) the last pay-per-view of 2024 was held. UFC 310, in Las Vegas, featured the Brazilian Alexandre Pantoja, who defended his flyweight belt against the Japanese Kai Asakura
After a very hard-fought first round, Pantoja beat the Japanese, moving from Rizin to Ultimate, he grabbed the naked rear choke to submit his rival, thus remaining champion of the category.
The fight
Right at the start of the main fight of UFC 310, the Japanese debutant threw a knee into the face of Pantoja, who responded with a left hand. The Brazilian fought on the ground, but not for long. Asakura seemed willing to show the strength of his strikes, chasing the champion and calling him to fight, which Pantoja responded in kind, leaving the first part very competitive and electrifying.
After a right counter, Pantoja attempted a takedown. A moment of fighting for position was followed by a clear takedown that landed him on Asakura’s back. Quickly, the Brazilian attempted the rear-naked choke, blocked it and “obliterated” the Japanese to win the fight and retain the belt.
In a controversial fight, Rakhmonov wins and remains undefeated
The main event of the evening featured a welterweight contest between Shavkat Rakhmonov and Ian Machado Garry. The Kazakh immediately got the takedown and took the Irishman to the fence, trying to take Garry down, to no avail. The first few minutes of the fight were quite tense and competitive, with Rakhmonov looking for the hold and dealing with his opponent’s takedown defense.
The second round follows the same scenario as the first, with little offensive initiative and with the Kazakh fighter still trying to take the fight to the ground. The Irishman continued to defend his opponent’s takedown attempts well, making the fight even more tense and without any major moments of action.
Garry launched early and landed kicks in the early part of the third round before going for the bodylock. Once again the two approach the barrier and do not attempt anything offensive, which prompts a warning from referee Marc Goddard. In the end the Irishman resorted to kicking again, managing to worry Rakhmonov quite a bit.
Wearing new shorts (these had been torn during the fight), Garry continued to try to strike while Rakhmonov tried to bring his rival into the cage in search of the takedown, which eventually occurred. On the ground, the fight eventually escalated with the Kazakh trying to attack and even reach his opponent’s back, without success. After the fight returned to the feet, Rakhmonov once again defeated Garry, nearly taking a guillotine from the Irishman.
Once again the Kazakh bet on the takedown attempt, but left the position for Garry to take advantage and attempt some submissions, well defended by the Kazakh. Staying on top, Rakhmonov did little and the final minutes of the fight were filled with very little offense. Furthermore, the Kazakh managed to do what was necessary to win, maintain his status as the No. 1 welterweight challenger and even call champion Belal Muhammad for a face-off to try to sell the possible fight.
Cyril Gane wins by controversial decision
In a heavyweight battle, Cyril Gane and Alexander Volkov took to the Octagon at T-Mobile Arena at this UFC 310. Volkov was soon able to defeat the Frenchman, but it would pay off moments later, with “Bon Gamin” he twice attempted submissions and almost succeeded with a guillotine before the end of the first round,
The Russian’s round shots and high kicks scared Gane in the second round, and it took him a while to respond, but when he did he managed to land a strong right hand. The fight went on for a few minutes and Volkov seemed to be a little better in this part of the fight.
In the third and decisive round, the fight was again fought on the ground, with the Russian trying to work on top, but was the target of a kimura attempt from the Frenchman, which was also unsuccessful. Volkov tried to use ground and strikes to intimidate “Bon Gamin”, who remained on defense until the end of the fight. If for some the impression was that ‘Drago’ was the winner of the fight, the side judges, however, gave the victory to Gane with a split decision discussed immediately after the fight.
Vicente Luque surrenders in the first round; Kron Gracie is eliminated
Kron Gracie stepped out at this Saturday’s event to face Bryce Mitchell. Son of jiu-jitsu legend Rickson, the Brazilian immediately fought on the ground and tried to work on his core skills, but didn’t achieve much against the American. In the second part of the fight, Mitchell began to attack and hit Kron well, who again took him down and almost took an armbar.
The Brazilian wanted to try once again to take the fight to where he is more accustomed, but two elbows from the American were precise and led to the knockout of Kron Gracie at the beginning of the third round, bringing the ace fighter to his third consecutive defeat. the UFC.
The first Brazilian into action at UFC 310, Vicente Luque barely broke a sweat in his fight against Themba Gorimbo. In the first big chance he got, Luque landed a series of punches that knocked the Zimbabwean fighter to the ground. As soon as the fight concluded, a hand triangle “erased” Gorimbo 52 seconds into the fight and caused the “Silent Assassin” to recover to Ultimate.
