One of the most acclaimed adaptations, “Sherlock” updates the detective for the 21st century Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman give outstanding performances as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, respectively.
The series follows detective Sherlock Holmes in contemporary London, solving mysteries with the help of his friend, former military doctor Dr. Watson.
Sherlock faces several criminals, including his arch-enemy Jim Moriarty, and receives calls for help from both ordinary people and the government.

Doctor House (2004-2012)

Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie) is a doctor famous for his ability to diagnose complex diseases. However, he has a difficult demeanor, with a skeptical attitude and a bad mood.
The plot follows House as he leads a team of unconventionally selected doctors to solve challenging medical cases.
Although set in the world of medicine, Dr. House is a modern reinterpretation of the detective. The protagonist shares the brilliance, sarcasm and eccentric behavior of Sherlock Holmes, and the relationship between House and Wilson reflects the classic Holmes and Watson dynamic.

The Mentalist (2008 – 2015)

Patrick Jane (Simon Baker), a former con man who pretended to be a psychic, becomes a consultant to the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after serial killer Red John kills his wife and daughter in retaliation for Jane’s public lie.
Now he uses his exceptional observation and deduction skills, worthy of Sherlock Holmes, to solve crimes and seek revenge, working alongside agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney).
The creator of the series revealed that the idea for the protagonist was to create a character as intelligent as Sherlock Holmes, but with the charm and humor of Cary Grant, a classic Hollywood star.

Detective Conan (1996–present)

This anime follows Conan Edogawa, a boy detective who solves complex mysteries, directly inspired by the Sherlock legacy.
Shinichi Kudo, a high school detective, is poisoned by a criminal organization, but the experimental drug turns him into a child. Under the alias Conan Edogawa, he hides his identity and solves cases together with a professional detective, using tricks to present solutions. As he investigates the mysterious Black Organization, Conan faces new challenges and finds allies.
In addition to the series, there are films available that feature exciting and well-crafted investigations.

The Baker Street Illegals (2021)

In this Netflix adaptation, the story follows a group of young outcasts in Victorian London who solve supernatural cases for the couple Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes.
As they face dark forces that threaten humanity, the boys band together to unravel mysteries, even as Holmes takes all the credit for their discoveries.
With a different approach, the series explores the Irregulars, secondary characters from the original stories.

Monk – A different detective (2002 – 2009)

The series combines humor and mystery, creating a character reminiscent of the genius of Sherlock Holmes.
Monk (Tony Shalhoub) is a brilliant detective, but suffering from severe obsessive compulsive disorder, who faces challenges in his personal and professional life.
After losing his wife in a mysterious accident, he suffers a nervous breakdown and tries to find the person responsible for her death, facing his own limitations.

Luther (2010 – 2019)

The series follows John Luther (Idris Elba), a brilliant and obsessive London police detective who returns to work after an emotional crisis caused by the investigation of a serial child killer.
As he tries to balance his dedication to work with marriage, Luther faces his limitations, putting both his personal and professional life at risk.

Although it is not an adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, the creator of the series has stated that Luther is influenced by the famous detective, as well as another iconic character: Detective Columbo, played by Peter Falk.

Some interesting productions for fans of the characters are unfortunately not available online at the moment. We highlight some of them:
Elementary (2012 – 2019)
Set in New York, it features Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock and Lucy Liu as a female version of Watson. The series modernizes and reinvents several aspects of the Holmes universe.

Sherlock Hound (1984)
An anime produced and directed by Hayao Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli), in which Holmes and the other characters are portrayed as an anthropomorphic dog. With a fascinating aesthetic, it combines mystery with a touch of fantasy, in a steampunk setting.

Miss Sherlock (2018)
Japanese production featuring a female version of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, set in Tokyo. The series offers a new cultural perspective on classic stories.
