After a five-week run, Debbie’s suitcase adventure is coming to an end!
This Monday, December 9, 2024, TF1 will broadcast the final episode of Cat’s Eyes, the TV series adapted from Tsukasa Hojo’s iconic manga.
If the adventures of Tami (Camille Lu), Celia (Constance Labe) and Alexia (Claire Romain) captivated millions of viewers, what did Tsukasa Hojo think of the French adaptation?
“It was crazy”
Tsukasa Hojo was only 21 years old when he wrote Cat’s Eyes. If we had told him at the time that his manga would be adapted in France, he would probably have replied that “It was madness“, as he confided in the columns Parisian.
Throughout his long career, Tsukasa Hojo has had numerous requests for live-action adaptations of his works, but France has finally decided to relent.
It must be said that it was the idea to tell the origin story of the Chamadi sisters “The only interesting approach that only the French had integrated into the project“.
Therefore, Michel Katz, the screenwriter, and Alexandre Laurent, the director, were tasked with bringing to life three modern, strong and independent women, Tami, Celia and Alexia.
Except for a few conditions that he really wanted, Tsukasa Hojo gave complete freedom to the creators of the series.
“He was very touched by the series”
One of the producers of the series, Benjamin Dupont-Joubian, spoke to Allociné last September about Tsukasa Hojo’s emotions when he discovered the first episodes of Cat’s Eyes.
“It was a great moment because it touched the series so much. He was very happy with the result and we felt it was very sincere. She was really touched to see the chemistry between the three sisters, which she felt quite early on when she came on set. He really thought it was great. It was super moving. He watched two episodes and couldn’t wait to see what happened next.“.
Mehdi Sabar, another producer, explained, “He was greatly impressed by the means which had been taken. He knew what to expect, he came to the shooting, but I think when he saw the result, he said to himself that it was a little bigger than he imagined. He congratulated us on this and it really touched us“.
