The United Nations human rights chief said Monday that there is a “great opportunity” for an inclusive dialogue on political transition in Syria’s new era after the ouster of President Bashar al-Assad.
“I hope that in the current context there will obviously be this inclusive, very inclusive dialogue,” U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said at a news conference in Geneva.
“There is a great possibility that this will happen. And what we saw initially was really cooperation,” he added.
He also called for accountability for past crimes committed in Syria and for meticulous preservation of evidence.
