When she’s not in the Land of Oz singing along, Michelle Yeoh delivers well-placed punches in Section 31. This sci-fi TV movie, which serves as a spin-off to Star Trek: Discovery, is revealed in an XXL trailer that lets you meet the entire crew of the Empress Philippa Georgiou.
The latter is contacted by Starfleet to join a secret unit responsible for protecting the United Federation of Planets. Opposite role for Michael Burnham’s mother (Sonequa Martin-Green).
And we understand thanks to these new images that the character played by Michelle Yeoh does not like to use conventional methods to complete the mission.
Long development film
In 2018, the Malaysian actress proposed the idea of developing a spin-off project based on Philippa Georgiou, a character she loved to play in the first season of Star Trek Discovery.
Originally slated as a two-season series, the program was retooled and made into a TV movie: easier to fit into the 62-year-old star’s ultra-busy schedule.
After several years of gestation, long-term filming and post-production, part 31 is finally ready. And after 6 years of waiting, we hope that the result will be equal.
All the Star Trek series are expected next year
It’s also an opportunity for Paramount to develop a brand new installment of Star Trek, the monumental science fiction franchise that celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2026.
Section 31 is a secret intelligence service that is regularly mentioned in the Star Trek series and films (for example, in Into Darkness in 2013), but never developed on screen.
Expect lots of action, lots of green backgrounds, heroines evil And very classy and probably on other Star Trek programs that take place in the same universe…
See you next January 24th on Paramount+.
