Hippocrates on Canal+: The end of season 3 explained by the creator of the series

Be warned, the following paragraphs contain spoilers for the final episode of Hippocrates Season 3. If you haven’t seen it yet, go ahead!

This Monday, December 9, Canal+ airs the final part of Hippocrates Season 3. After 5 weeks on the air, Raymond Poincare Hospital prepares to temporarily close its doors during the episode Arben (Karim Leclew), Alison (Alyssa Bellaid), Hugo (Zachary Chacerio), Chloe (Louise Burgoyne). and Olivier Brun (Bouli Lanners).

Olivier and Chloe are locked in a hospital in California

During episode 6, Bruni makes the decision to bring the patients back to the California hospital to cure them. Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned. One of Bruni’s patients is rapidly deteriorating.

Thanks to the efforts of the entire team, they managed to save his life. Despite their relief, Alison discovers that the abandoned old lady has died in her sleep. They know that when the whole story comes out, they risk their careers.

Bruni and Chloe then decide to lock themselves in a secret hospital and blame their colleagues. In the last seconds, Arben, Alison and Hugo leave the stage. And as a final symbol, Brun and Chloe took the fire extinguisher that was blocking the door and locked it in the hospital.

Thomas Lilt reminisces at the end of Season 3

In an interview with Hippocrates creator Thomas Lilly, we asked him to explain this highly symbolic end to the season. “What matters in this finale is not that they shut themselves down, but that they stay“, he told us.

They will take responsibility and thereby save others. The latter go to new adventures. We see them wearing white coats that look like superhero capes. Olivier Brun remains in hospital as he assumes his duties as leader. However, he was not the one who behaved the worst.”

As for Chloe, she sacrifices herself because she is the instigator of the California hospital, but also because, of course, she has the least to lose. And this is the picture at the end of the season. It is said that disobedience has its limits.

The point of this third season wasn’t to say “there’s nothing to do with laws, we do what we want and it works better that way.” In the end, the caregivers put themselves in danger and could not treat the patients better than in a normal hospital.”

Therefore, it shows that the solutions lie elsewhere. This Season 3 is primarily showing that we’re dealing with an institution that’s malfunctioning and forcing people to take risks and put themselves in harm’s way.

That’s what I’m saying: putting them in danger doesn’t necessarily lead to convincing results. And this is even more terrible. We absolutely must find solutions, and those solutions must be institutional.

Now it remains to be seen what the consequences of this action will be on the 4th season, which has not yet been ordered by Canal+.

Catch the final episode of Hippocrates Season 3 this Monday, December 9 at 9:00 PM on Canal+. The season is available in its entirety on the MyCanal platform.
