The decision was announced on Tuesday during the 30th meeting of the FIFA Council in the presence of the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues.
FIFA has announced the dates of the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The competition will take place from June 24 (Thursday) to July 25 (Sunday). The decision came after the entity’s technical council held this Tuesday in Zurich, Switzerland.
“The meeting was very fruitful and now we can announce to the fans the dates of the 2027 World Cup, which will be the best World Cup in history,” said CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues.
The CBF president participated in the virtual meeting led by FIFA president Gianni Infantino. Rodrigues sits on the FIFA Council, the main executive body of world football. In May, Brazil was chosen to host the Women’s World Cup in a historic vote. The CBF-led candidacy obtained 119 votes in the elections promoted to the FIFA Congress.
The definition of the host cities has not yet taken place by FIFA. In October, representatives of the entity carried out a series of inspections on candidates to host matches in Brazil. A technical team was present in 12 cities to evaluate stadiums, mobility, airports and technical infrastructure.
Distribution of vacancies
FIFA also revealed how the dispute will be classified. Brazil will not need to search for the vacancy. After all, it is the home of the competition. In total, Conmebol will have three places as one of these, the fourth, went to the Seleção. UEFA will have 11 places for European teams. Concacaf will have four direct vacancies, as will the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Finally, the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) will have one place while the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will have six.
Three other positions will be determined through a 10-team playoff tournament. The first phase will take place in November/December 2026 at a centralized venue with six teams based on the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking before the play-off draw. The two best teams will qualify for the final phase of these play-offs, which will take place in February 2027, in which these two teams will face two teams from Concacaf, one from Conmebol and one from UEFA.
Finally, the six teams will play a three-way draw with a knockout match to determine the three teams that qualify for the Women’s World Cup. In fact, teams from the same confederation cannot be in the same bracket.
