With an impressive average of 4.7 stars out of 5, Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad is AlloCiné’s highest-rated TV series of all time, and there are plenty of good reasons for that result.
We could obviously talk about the lavish photography of the show, the sophistication of its script or the talent of the actors, but let’s focus today on the effectiveness of its rocks, which have repeatedly left the audience completely stunned.
An unforgettable episode
This was the case, for example, in the final moments of Season 3, when Jesse was holding his gun at Gale, as we mentioned a few weeks ago. Or at the time of Gus’s death at the end of Season 4.
But if there’s one episode ending that sticks out in every fan’s memory, it’s the ending of Season 5, Episode 8. A new day will dawnThis particular chapter has already given us a few twists, especially with the sequence of multiple murders ordered by Walter White in different prisons in order to wipe out all the embarrassing witnesses of his past relationship in 2 minutes.
A legendary trip to the toilet
After the amazing success and colossal amount of money collected, Walt announced that he would completely stop his criminal activities in order to return to his family life. As for his brother Hank—the DEA officer who relentlessly tracked him down without even a second of suspicion—he’s more or less closed the Heisenberg file, resigned. In short, everything seems to be more or less back to normal. And the story could very well have ended there.
But, as is often the case with Breaking Bad, just when you least expect it, things change in an absolutely spectacular way. Because at the end of this famous episode 8, Walter and Hank meet again for a nice family dinner. It’s at this point, in the final seconds of the episode, that we see the most memorable bathroom trip in the history of the small screen (arguably tied to Tywin Lannister’s trip on Game of Thrones).

This time, it’s Hank who sits on the throne, and to pass the time, he grabs the first book he finds behind him. This book, as the audience learns to their horror and amazement, is one that Gail Boetticher (Walt’s former co-worker) suggested and dedicated to his mentor. The work is signed Walt Whitman, and the handwritten message that appears on the flyleaf reads:
“To my other favorite WW. An honor to work with you. Love, GB”
In a split second, Hank realizes everything. He recognizes Gale’s handwriting, and especially the initials WW, which he had already had the opportunity to see in the latter’s personal papers, while examining his house after her death. He then recalls a conversation he had with Walter at that exact moment:
“WW? I wonder what that means. Woodrow Wilson? Willy Wonka? Walter White?”he dared jokingly. But what was nothing more than a joke at the time now emerges as a terrifying discovery, the key to the entire mystery, the terrifying resolution of the investigation that has haunted Hank since season one.
And obviously, this simple little scene has devastating consequences for the rest of the series.
