First reactions of ‘Nope!’: “A resounding Yep!”

The new work of Jordan Peele excites in its first passes.

Jordan Peele’s third feature film has had its world premiere in Los Angeles, and the first reactions begin to emerge on social networks praising the director’s turn towards classic science fiction and even going so far as to compare the film to Steven Spielberg’s best films.

Peele, whose debut ‘Let Me Out’ was nominated for four Oscars including Best Picture, wanted to lower expectations on the red carpet of the preview, hoping that people go see the movie without prejudiceJust for the fun of it.

We try to make a big summer blockbuster that you can enjoy whatever you want.Peele said. “If you want to go in and smoke a nice joint and talk to a friend about social issues, you can. If you want to come and just relax and get away from it all and see Keke Palmer in the middle of a UFO, you’ve also come to the right place.”.

‘nope!’ reunites Peele with the protagonist of ‘Let me out’, Daniel Kaluyain the story of two brothers (Kaluuya and Keke Palmer) that they discover an alien spaceship flying over their family’s horse ranch. The duo sets out to capture the spaceship with their camera, but the mission doesn’t go as planned.

The enthusiasm in networks of some critics who saw the film in the first passes has been almost unanimous, highlighting the 1950s alien invasion movie tone and Peele’s change of style. For example, CNN reporter Frank Pallotta called the film “Out of this world“, referring to Alfred Hitchcock and John Carpenter:

People magazine editor-in-chief Nigel Smith defines ‘Nope!’ What “a strange and exciting spectacle“:

Heather Wilson of the Daily Dead News goes further stating that Jordan Peele’s new movie is “absolutely phenomenal in every way“.

Other reactions praised the film for the performances of Kaluuya and Palmer and for his nods to Spielberg’s cinema.

“#NopeMovie is an absolute blast!! @JordanPeele has put together a loving tribute to fans of a certain Spielberg masterpiece. I’ll let you find out which one. The cast is excellent and the sound and designs are impeccable! It’s a wild ride!”

“#Nope is one of the best movies I’ve seen this year! It’s terrifying and fierce, but also very funny and unlike any UFO movie you’ve ever seen.. It’s a completely unique and VERY entertaining epic of horror, full of wild surprises and an unforgettable performance from Keke Palmer.”

“Jordan Peele’s Nope is his most confident, unrestrained and potentially most divisive vision yet. Trading the exclamation points of horror for the question marks of sci-fi, it’s less about scares. With hints of ‘Encounters in the third phase’, ‘Jaws’ and more, #NopeMovie is a real puzzle box.”

“#NopeMovie is otherworldly yet indescribable. From instances of sheer horror to heartfelt moments between characters, #Nope is an experience that won’t be easy to forget when you find yourself lifting your jaw off the ground. Jordan Peele has done it again!
