Dominique Boutonati has been reappointed as CNC President

The Council of Ministers, at the proposal of the Minister of Culture, renewed the mandate of Dominik Butona as the president of the CNC for 3 years, despite the accusation.

In February 2021, the president of the National Cinema Center, Dominique Boutonati, who was accused as part of the investigation of sexual violence and attempted rape, was reappointed as the head of the CNC by the decision of the Council of Ministers.

The producer headed the National Center of Cinematography in 2019 for a three-year term, which was therefore recently renewed for another three years.

According to the information BFM TVDominique Boutonat is being accused by his 22-year-old godfather of acts that would have been committed in the summer of 2020. The CNC president quickly disputed the allegations.

On April 25, the prosecutor’s office in Nanterre requested the transfer of Dominique Boutonati to the criminal court.

In a press release sent on July 13, La SRF (Société des Réalisateurs et Réalisatrices de Films), which had already opposed his appointment in July 2019, assessed that Dominique Boutonnat’s renewal would be “incomprehensible“.

On the eve of the possible renewal of Dominique Boutonati as CNC president, SRF filmmakers continue to strongly oppose the orientation that has been in place since the beginning of his mandate.

While some achievements can be welcomed, such as the creation of the third Advance Receipts Committee, and special aid quickly released during the health crisis, the fundamentals of the policies implemented in the last three years remain more alarming for independent cinema..”

According to Dominic Boutonati, SRF Board of Directors.pursues openly liberal and very often short-term policies, trying to slowly dismantle this powerful instrument of regulation“.

For her part, the new culture minister, Rima Abdul Malak, campaigned for her reappointment as head of the CNC. He confided last June Parisian :”He is charged, not convicted. Presumption of innocence prevails“.
