$591 Million Worldwide: This Disney Princess Will Get Her Own Live-Action Movie!

Following live-action versions of Snow White (scheduled for theaters March 19, 2025), Lilo & Stitch (announced May 21, 2025) and Moana (July 8, 2026), Disney continues to exploit animated classics in live action. So it’s Rapunzel who will soon get the rights for her own live-action movie.

The project mentioned several times has finally been formalized. according to termMichael Grace — a seasoned director of musicals, having helmed The Greatest Showman and Better Man , a biopic centered on Robbie Williams scheduled to hit theaters on January 22 — is reportedly in talks to direct the adaptation.

Released in 2010, Rapunzel grossed $591 million worldwide and drew more than 4 million viewers to French theaters.

Byron Howard and Nathan Greno’s animated film was a modern take on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale about a magical blonde-haired princess who escapes from her tower to discover the world. Rapunzel then embarks on a great adventure with Flynn Rider, a charming thief.

The film was nominated for an Oscar for original song “I see the light” Composed by Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater.

Details of the live-action version are being kept under wraps, but the story written by Jennifer Caitlin Robinson (Thor: Love and Thunder) is expected to be faithful to the animated film. The name of the actor has not yet been released, nor is the release date known.

Meanwhile, Mufasa, the prequel to Jon Favreau’s The Lion King released in 2019, hits our theaters this Wednesday, December 18.
