It’s the news many feared, but it’s now official: Season 5 of Yellowstone will indeed be its last. The show will therefore end at the end of the next episode, which will air this Monday, December 16 in the United States and then December 30 in France. It has also been announced that a spin-off focusing on Rip and Beth will be released soon.
The Yellowstone finale will divide fans
The end of the most watched series on American television still marks the end of an era. And there’s no doubt that this ending, caused by Kevin Costner’s departure, won’t resonate with fans. According to Luke Grimes, Case Dutton’s interpreter in the series, the Yellowstone finale risks angering a section of the public.
“The way things are going, I don’t think the fans will be disappointed. Some will find it a well-written and well-acted episode. But the majority will just be mad that it’s over, from what I understand.” He told our colleaguesEsquire.
Casey is the youngest of the Dutton clan. A former United States Army Marine, he in many ways represents the values passed down by his father, John. But Case is going to live a more peaceful life than a rancher like Yellowstone.
Luke Grimes discusses Kevin Costner’s departure
In the same interview, the 40-year-old actor returned to the departure of Kevin Costner. According to him, the absence of the latter was quite positive and even helped to clean the shooting atmosphere. “To be honest, Kevin’s departure helped end some of the conflicts.” He commented and added: “This was the easiest season to film.”
It has not yet been confirmed if Luke Grimes will appear in the upcoming Yellowstone spin-off. However, the latter does not close the door to the appearance, provided that the story that is offered to him is consistent with the trajectory of his character.
Season five of Yellowstone is now available exclusively on Paramount+, which is also offered as part of a Canal+ subscription.
