Brazil, as it is the host country of the next edition and already has a direct vacancy, will not act; find out more details about the new competition
News in South American football! Conmebol announced this Thursday (12) the creation of the South American qualifiers for the Women’s World Cup, in view of the next edition, in 2027, which will take place in Brazil. Since they host the competition and, consequently, already have a guaranteed place, the Brazilian team will not make their debut in this edition.
According to the official Conmebol website, the competition will take place between 2025 and 2026 and will be a single round, with nine nations playing eight rounds (four at home and another four away). There will therefore be two direct places and another two in the playoffs in a format decided by FIFA (not yet announced). The groups will still be drawn.
Qualifying begins after the Copa América, which, by the way, was how South American teams guaranteed a place at the World Cup. Still according to the body, however, the women’s Copa América will continue to be the path towards the 2027 Pan American Games and the 2028 Olympics.
Brazil has never won the Women’s World Cup. Brazil’s best season was second place in 2007, when Canarinho lost 2-0 to two-time world champions Germany. In 2027, the World Cup will take place between June 24 and July 25.
