A month before its release on HBO in the US and OCS in France, the House of the Dragon series has been released with a final trailer that should convince even the most reluctant fans in the first hour. This Game of Thrones prequel has been awaited by the public, who are hoping that this scorching spin-off about the origins of the Targaryen family will be up to the task.
And this long trailer raises the temperature and takes us back to the world and atmosphere – 200 years earlier – of Game of Thrones, which thrilled the whole world. Because these images set the tone for what will be the ultimate — and ultimately eternal — House of the Dragon: Who will gain access to the Iron Throne?
The list of suitors for King Visser I (Paddy Considine) is long, as each character in the prequels wants their share of power. There’s her brother, Prince Damon Targaryen (Matt Smith), but also her daughter, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), who reminds us of a certain Daenerys.
Rhaenyra is about to find her place in a man’s world and be the first woman to reach the Iron Throne. But he will have many enemies who cross his path, and sometimes opponents who are closer and more ambiguous than he thinks.
On the side of the court, he tries to curry favor with the powerful and devises schemes that would make Lord Baelish pale. Among the other characters we find the hand of King Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) and his daughter Alicent (Olivia Cooke), as well as Maester Melos (David Horowitz).
Finally, members of House Velarion, home of Lamarck Island, the largest island in Nera Bay in the Crown Lands, will also play a major role, such as Lord Corliss (Steve Toussaint) and Princess Rahenis (Eva Best).
Dragons will, of course, be part of the series adapted from George RR Martin’s novel “Fire and Blood,” which has already been renewed for a second season. House of the Dragon airs in France on OCS on August 22.
