This is bad news in recent weeks! TF1 has decided not to offer a second season to the Mercato series. A real disappointment for the fans, but also and above all for Arnaud Ducré, who was particularly involved in the creative process.
Knowing that the audience was completely respectable, we understand why this choice might have been surprising. In fact, Mercato averaged no less than 3.6 million viewers every night on the air. Suffice it to say, it’s not a failure at all.
In comparison, other series such as Daron or Mademoiselle Holmes were renewed by TF1. But then what happened to Marseille’s fiction? It’s hard to really know because all the elements seemed favorable to make season two official!
Especially since the plot revolved around Thomas Chevalier, an office cop with a stellar reputation… until he had to step in to prevent a madman from attacking the star recruit of Team OM as he arrived at the airport.
But he inadvertently injures the player, ending the entire city’s dream before it begins. A synopsis full of news, which unfortunately did not convince Channel One enough. Enough to disappoint Arnaud Ducrouet, as he revealed during an interview with our colleagues tele-vacation :
“I’m very disappointed. I was really behind the project with Route Production and TF1. I was disappointed in the thought that it was offering something new, fresh, with new faces on screen. I found that they sent us quite quickly. It was expensive.”
He continues confidently: “I like when I do something, like with Panique au 31, to offer something new, as I often say, with Tom Villa by my side, you have to give people something to eat.”
“With Mercato, we were giving people food. There was action, humor. I’m particularly disappointed by that. But hey, I’m back. Panic on the 31st. Now I’m moving forward with my projects.” Fiction with multiple guests to watch on TF1 on December 30th.
