When the teacher’s room turns into a suffocating closed door
Written and directed by Ilker Chatak, The Teacher’s Room follows the journey of Carla Novak, a young math and physical education teacher in a high school that employs a “zero tolerance” policy.
When a series of thefts occur in the teachers’ hall, an atmosphere of suspicion rises in the institution and the students are searched. The teachers then suspect Ali, a young man of Turkish origin, and this procedure turns into a humiliation for the boy, even though he is innocent.
Carla then decides to investigate herself and allows her laptop camera to record what is happening in the staff room. And then everything changes when the establishment is shocked by the discoveries and chaos ensues.
The project for this film arose out of a discussion between Ilker Chatak and his co-author Johannes Danker’s school memories of similar facts. This inspiration from reality allows La Salle des Profes to begin as an intimate social drama in a school setting that very quickly turns into a suffocating thriller.
The spiral and paranoia unfold very quickly, and the film never stops questioning us and taking us in complex directions, both breathtaking and terrifying, thanks to captivating writing and a tight and relentless staging.
You will experience all the emotions in front of the teacher’s room, guided by the tired gaze of its incredible lead actress Leonie Benes, who played the role of Princess Cecile in The Crown and who was seen in Babylon Berlin and Around the world. 80 days.
