Tracy McGrath, who served as a physical production executive for companies including Buena Vista Pictures, Miramax, CBS Films, New Regency, Amazon and Apple Films, has died. He was 65 years old.
McGrath had lupus and died of other health complications two weeks ago in Los Angeles, an Apple executive said Thursday.
Originally from Hollywood, McGrath began his career as director of physical production and financial production at Disney’s Buena Vista Pictures in 1996, working on films such as James Mangold. kop land (1997), 10 things I can’t stand about you (1999) and Wes Craven music of the heart (1999).
In 1999, he began a nine-year stint in physical production for Miramax/Dimension and The Weinstein Co., overseeing films such as Gus Van Sant. Well done Will Hunting (1997), bad santa claus (2003) and Denzel Washington a great discussion (2007).
He joined the new CBS Films as senior vice president of physical production in 2009, helping to establish its new physical production division. He worked there until 2011.
Four years later, as an independent producer, including feature films, Van Sant a sea of trees (2015), McGrath joined New Regency Productions as senior vice president of physical production, overseeing Alejandro G. finalizing Iñárritu’s photography. the reborn (2015) and production starring Michael Fassbender Assassins Creed (2016).
He joined Amazon Original Movies as Senior Vice President in 2017 before moving to Apple Films as Senior Vice President of Physical Production.
McGrath worked at Grauman’s Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard before graduating from Hollywood Heights.
After receiving her BA from UC Santa Cruz, she obtained her MA from AFI and received a scholarship from the Mary Pickford Foundation. She also obtained a master’s degree in French Literature and Language from New York University while studying at the University of Paris.
In 2019, she was elected to the Board of Directors of Women in Film.
McGrath has been described as “the face of a studio executive, respected and appreciated by his peers and filmmakers alike, which is no small feat”.
Survivors include her husband Tom, son Kai and siblings Betty, Irene, Clara, Sheran and Richard.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Monday at St. Monica’s Catholic Church. Donations can be made in his memory to his favorite charity, the Youth Mentoring Connection.
