A Second Chance at Love (2019)
The plot of “A Second Chance to Love” is inspired by the Christmas song “Last Christmas”, by the duo Wham!, of which George Michael was one of the members.
Emilia Clarke stars in the film as Kate, a frustrated young woman who works as an elf in a Christmas shop.
However, when she meets a mysterious man (Henry Golding), things start to look up. Directed by Paul Feig.
Love with a Planned Date (2020)
Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey star in this romantic comedy as two young people frustrated with holidays due to pressure from family members to have a relationship.
Therefore, they form an agreement to be each other’s companions during parties and holidays.
A Netflix original, “Amor com Data Marcada” covers several commemorative dates, of which Christmas is one of the central moments.
A Surprise Game (2021)
Netflix’s romantic comedy, “A Surprise Match,” stars Nina Dobrev as Natalie, a columnist who finds a perfect match on a dating app.
Natalie then decides to go to her contact’s city and surprise him at Christmas. However, she discovers that she has been deceived.
While You Were Sleeping (1995)
A commercial and critical success, “While You Were Sleeping” is one of the most prestigious romantic comedies of Sandra Bullock’s career. The plot follows Lucy (Bullock), a lonely woman who works on the subway and has a platonic crush on a passenger (Peter Gallagher).
However, on Christmas, the man is pushed onto the tracks after a robbery. Lucy saves him, but he falls into a coma. However, when she visits him in hospital, Lucy is mistaken by his family for his girlfriend.
This leads to a series of misunderstandings and, what’s more, Lucy falls in love with the comatose man’s brother (Bill Pullman). The film is directed by Jon Turteltaub.
The Princess and the Commoner (2018)
Inspired by the novel “The Prince and the Pauper” by Mark Twain, “The Princess and the Commoner” is a Netflix romantic comedy that sees Vanessa Hudgens play two different roles. The cast also includes Sam Palladio and Nick Sagar.
The story follows a baker and a duchess who, when they meet at a baking competition just before Christmas, discover that they are identical. Intrigued by each other’s lives, they decide to switch places for a few days.
The film had two sequels: “The Princess and the Commoner: A New Adventure” and “The Princess and the Commoner: Even Bad Guys Love,” both also available on Netflix.
Love Doesn’t Take a Holiday (2006)
Directed by Nancy Meyers, “Love Doesn’t Take a Vacation” boasts a strong cast. Names like Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black star in the film.
The plot follows two women who, after complicated situations in their relationships, agree to exchange homes for a period of time during Christmas.
Reliving Christmas (2011)
With a similar time loop to “Spell of Time,” “Reliving Christmas” is a romantic comedy starring Amy Smart and Mark-Paul Gosselaar.
In the plot, the callous Kate (Smart) tries to win back her ex-boyfriend and cancels her blind date with Miles (Gosselaar) on Christmas Eve. However, Kate later discovers that she is in a time loop, having the ability to relive Christmas 12 times to mature.
The Corner Store (1940)
A cinematic classic, “A Loja da Esquina” is considered one of the best romantic comedies of all time. It is directed by the famous German director Ernst Lubitsch.
Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart play two Budapest store clerks who hate each other. However, without knowing it, they are in love with each other, as they correspond anonymously through letters.
