‘Karate Kid: Legends’ gets trailer and release date; check it out

The film will bring together Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan in a new phase of the franchise, with a connection to the Cobra Kai series

The first trailer for Karate Kid: Legends was released, revealing more details about the new chapter in the martial arts franchise. The film opens in American theaters on May 30, 2025, and is likely to arrive in Brazil a day earlier, on May 29. Gathering Ralph Macchiointerpreter of Daniel LaRusso since 1984, and Jackie Chanwho played Mr. Han in the 2010 remake, the production introduces a new generation of characters while expanding the universe already known to fans.

Karate Kid: Legends takes place three years after the events of the series Cobra Kai and will be set on the east coast of the United States. The plot follows Li Fong, a young Chinese man who finds the strength in martial arts to face personal and family challenges. Interpreted by Ben Wangthe character becomes an apprentice to Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Han.

Wang was chosen as the actor after a global search that brought together thousands of young artists with martial arts skills. In addition to acting, he has training in karate, kung fu, taekwondo and more, making him ideal for the physical and emotional challenges of the role.

“I was the target audience when the film came out. I was exactly the character’s age.”Wang told EntertainmentWeekly. “The entire film takes place in Beijing, and I had just returned from a year in Beijing. Also, I grew up watching Jackie Chan movies. He is the first memory I have of knowing what an actor is. It was all my favorite things in one place.”

Specific details of the story have not yet been released.

In addition to Macchio, Chan and Wang, the cast includes Ming-Na Wen as Li Fong’s mother, as well as Joshua Jackson and Sadie Stanley in roles not yet revealed. The direction is in charge of Jonathan Entwistleresponsible for successes such as I Am Not Okay With Thiswhile the script was written by Rob Lieberknown as Pedro Coelho. The production is signed by Karen Rosenfelt.

Connection with Cobra Kai

Although so far only Daniel LaRusso has been confirmed as having a direct connection with Cobra Kaidirector Jonathan Entwistle revealed that he is in frequent conversations with the series team to ensure that the film is aligned with the franchise’s universe. Fans speculate that other characters in the series may make cameo appearances.
