The maternal advice that stopped Nicole Kidman from abandoning her acting career

The Oscar winner revealed that she thought about stopping acting after the birth of her first daughter, but changed her mind after talking to her mother

Owner of a successful career that has yielded several awards, including a Oscar for Best Actress, Nicole Kidman revealed that he almost abandoned his career in 2008, after the birth of his first daughter, Sunday Rose.

In conversation with the CBS News (via NME), the actress said that it was her mother who convinced her to change her mind.

Nicole Kidman gave more details:

When I gave birth to SundayI thought, ‘well, I think I’ve done everything I needed to do’. We were living on a farm and it was at that moment that my mother advised me: ‘Don’t give up completely. Keep one foot inside the industry.’ And I said, ‘No, no. I’m really ready to stop.’ She insisted: ‘Just listen to me. Keep moving forward. I’m not saying you should work at the same intensity as before, but don’t give up completely.'”

In that 2008, the actress starred, alongside Hugh Jackmanthe drama Australiadirected by Baz Luhrmann.

Months after his mother’s advice, Nicole Kidman took on projects like the film Rediscovering Happiness (2010). In the following years, her career continued to soar, with participation in films such as A Long Journey (2013), The Sacrifice of the Sacred Deer (2017) and Aquaman (2018).

The actress explained that her mother’s experience, a woman from a generation that didn’t have many opportunities, influenced the conversation.

“She helped create a path for her daughters, something she probably wished she had when she was younger.”

The actress’ next appearance will be in the erotic thriller Babygirlscheduled to debut in Brazilian cinemas on January 9, 2025.

In the new, written and directed by Halina Reijn (Death, Death, Death), Kidman plays a successful CEO, who gets involved with her new intern, Samuel (Harris Dickinson, Iron Claw), which could risk both their personal and professional lives.

In addition to Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson, Babygirl still has Antonio Banderas (The Skin I Live In), Sophie Wilde (Talk to me), Esther McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Vaughan Reilly (The Hunger Games: Song of Birds and Snakes), between others.
