Oscar 2025 announces shortlist of nominees with I’m Still Here

Brazil in Oscar again is getting closer and closer to coming to fruition! On the afternoon of this Tuesday, 17th, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences officially announced the list of pre-nominees for the 2025 edition of the award, with the presence of I’m Still Here (2024), film directed by Walter Salles and starring Fernanda Torres.

However, it is worth highlighting how this milestone does not guarantee the presence of production, which also has Selton Mello and Fernanda Montenegro in the cast, be one of the five nominees for Best International Film. Academy will release the official list on January 17th after members vote on the films between the 8th and 12th of the same month. Furthermore, the pre-list does not include the main categories, such as Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Directorscripts, among others.

However, not only in Best International Film, I’m Still Here has a real chance of appearing in categories such as Best Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay. The chances of Mello be recognized in Best Supporting Actor are remote (but it would be well deserved if it happened). See the pre-list Oscars 2025 below (via Variety):
