SporTV’s production will detail episodes of overcoming and controversies surrounding the midfielder’s trajectory, as well as delving into his human aspect
SporTV will promote the premiere of the documentary series “Brasil vs Dunga – Futebol em Pé de Guerra”, at 7pm, this Thursday (19th). The production details episodes from the career of the former captain of the Brazilian team that won the fourth world championship in 1994. There is also a deepening of his human side and an emphasis on moments of overcoming. The former midfielder was marked as the symbol of the fall at the 1990 World Cup and four years later he reached his peak.
The feature film will also be available on Globoplay and is directed by Fernando Acquarone. The professional thus clarified the reasons for choosing the protagonist of the work.
“We thought that there is no player more symbolic of this World Cup than Dunga himself, the captain of that victory. This is because all the press at the previous World Cup, in 1990, had stamped the failure as his name, with the ‘It was Dunga’. So, having this turning point, from one World Cup to the next, is a very inspiring, rollercoaster-worthy journey of overcoming,” the director explained.
Highlight for Dunga’s passing trajectory
The initial episode of the three products tells the beginning of the professional career of Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri, known as Dunga. He earned his nickname for his physical condition as a child: large ears, short stature and overweight. In other words, this was the first mission he had as an athlete. He then had to face the distrust of an emblematic scout in the youth categories of Internacional. The talent scout doubted the midfielder’s ability to turn professional.
Dunga was not discouraged, with determination he created a preparation routine before training in Beira-Rio, won at the base and became a reality as a professional. Even with the turbulent start to his career, Dunga’s biggest challenge was to turn things around after being characterized as synonymous with the Brazilian team’s failure in the 1990 World Cup. He faced intense criticism and was held responsible of the fall of the Canarinho team at the Italian World Cup, after the defeat against Argentina.
The Brazilian team did not live up to expectations, especially after winning the 1989 Copa América, beating Argentina. Even so, Dunga did not give up and demonstrated his resilience in the following edition of the World Cup. So much so that the midfielder became captain during the international tournament, as well as being the athlete with the most successful tackles and passes. Furthermore, he converted the decisive penalty in the championship decider against Italy, securing and lifting the most coveted trophy among the teams.
The feature film collected the stories of some of Dunga’s former teammates in the Brazilian team. These are the cases of Bebeto, Ricardo Rocha, Zinho, Mauro Silva, Taffaril and Cafu. As well as Roberto Baggio. Coaches Carlos Alberto Parreira, Jair Pereira and Sebastião Lazaroni also participated. As well as journalists Paulo Vinicius Coelho, Galvão Bueno, Juca Kfouri, Alex Escobar and Sérgio Xavier Filho. There were also testimonies from mother Maria Verri and sister Regiane Verri.
