Game of Thrones: Less sex for spin-off House of the Dragon on OCS

When it was released in 2011, Game of Thrones impressed with violent sequences, sacrifices of important characters, but also with sex scenes, some of which shocked the public.

Arya, Brienne, Cersei, Daenerys, Sansa from “Game of Thrones” are the best female characters in pop culture. They are strong, distinctive and different from each other and even on TV. However, the series was criticized for its handling of these characters, as well as for its depiction of sexual violence inherent in George RR Martin’s world (a fantasy world, but directly inspired by medieval Europe and its horrors).

The Dragon House team is well aware of this criticism and wanted to approach this sensitive issue a little differently. “Shows are a reflection of their time and now there is more awareness of what we stand for and why.”, explained Casey Blois, director of programming for HBO and HBO Max in an interview The Hollywood Reporter.

Miguel Sapochnik – historical producer and director of Game of Thrones and now co-showrunner of House of the Dragon – explains that the production “lift your legThe amount of sex in the show while some explaining how sex is an unusual aspect of Targaryen life. Sexual abuse is still part of this world, but Sapochnik says their approach is done with care and reflection:

We will not avoid it. On the contrary, we are going to highlight this aspect. You cannot ignore the violence that was perpetrated against women by men at that time. It should not be minimized and it should not be glorified.

Recall that the story of “House of Dragons” takes place 200 years before the story of “Game of Thrones”, at a time when the Targaryen dynasty owned many dragons and ruled Westeros. In this context, a war of succession begins when two people claim the famous Iron Throne.

The cast includes Millie Alcock as the young princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alice Hightower, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower and Emma D’Arcy as the elder Rhaenyra.

House of the Dragon will be available from August 22nd simulcast in the US at 3am on OCS.
